Please don’t forget to include your details so we can easily identify your package.

  • How should I post my photos/slides/negatives/tapes to you?

Your photos/slides/negatives/tapes should ideally be packed into a suitable sized box and padded with bubble wrap or packaging paper and securely sealed. Send them to us using a reputable courier such as Parcelforce/dpd/ups etc. We also recommend using a “tracked” or “signed for” option.

Please don’t forget to include your details so we can easily identify your package.

  • Can I Upload photos rather than send them through the post

Yes, simply visit our upload page where you will find our upload form and instructions.

  • I’m not sure how many photos/slides/negatives/tapes I have?

Don’t worry, we’ll count them for you and send you a quote for your approval before commencing any work.

  • What size photos can you scan?

Any size up to A4, this is because we use flatbed scanners and scan each photo individually by hand rather than using a machine fed system which can damage your photos.

If your photo is larger than A4 we can scan it in more than one part and use a process called photo stitching to reproduce  the image without any visibe joins. This process works very well unless your photo is unusually complex. Please contact us for further details.

  • Can you scan photos that have been sticky tapped or blue tacked?

Because we scan every photo by hand, then yes we can but to avoid all your photos getting stuck together and therefore damaged its best to remove as much as possible before packing and sending to us.

  • Can you scan my photos if they are curled or bent?

Because we scan your entire photo collection by hand, then yes we can.

  • Can you scan photos in albums?

Yes we can but there are a few considerations to take into account.

    • What type of album is it? For the slide in and flip type it’s usually quite easy to remove the photos for scanning. However for the self-adhesive type it’s usually very difficult to remove the photos that have been in them for more than a year or two without damaging them.

    • The additional postage cost due to the extra size and weight. Not that big of a problem for one album but for several this can really add up.

However, we are happy to scan your albums for the additional cost of £10 per album as long as the photos can be removed without any risk of damage.

If we are unable to remove the photos we can scan the photos in situ usually resulting in an image similar in quality to that of a loose photo.

You may have an album that someone has lovingly put together with hand written notes or annotations, we could also scan these photos in situ and capture that irreplaceable narrative too.

  • Do you crop and rotate my photos?

Yes, we crop your photos (standard & premium service) and rotate them so that they are the right way up for viewing. If for any reason you don’t wish your photos to be cropped for instance they have boarders that have been annotated then just let us know.

  • Can you scan my photos/slides/negatives in a particular order?

We usually scan them in the order they were received. If you need them scanning in a particular order please let us know before you send them and we will be more than happy to advise you on how this can be accommodated.

  • Can you organise my photos/slides/negatives into folders?

Yes we can, if you organise your photos/slides/negatives into separate packets/envelopes etc. we can scan these into separate folders. Please let us know before you send them and we will be more than happy to advise you on how this can be accommodated.

  • Will my photos come back in the same order as I sent them?

We usually scan them in the order they were received and so we try to keep them in the same order for when we return them but occasionally there may be a photo not in the same place. If this is of importance to you then please let us know when you send them.

  • I have small/very large collection that I would like scanning?

Not a problem, no job is too big or too small.

  • What resolution do you scan my photos/slides/negatives at?

We scan photos @600 DPI, slides @4800 DPI and Negatives @ 4000 DPI. Other resolutions are available upon request. Please contact us for further details.

  • What Is DPI?

DPI stands for Dots Per Inch and is a measurement of image quality, basically the higher the number the better the quality but also the file size. That’s why we use 600dpi for photos as the resulting image is great for viewing on any size screen but also a manageable file size. If you require an alternate DPI or format please contact us for details.

  • What Is A Jpeg?

A Jpeg is a type of file used to store digital photos and is one of the most commonly used by computers and cameras. This is because the image produced is of good quality and a manageable file size. If you require an alternate format please contact us for details.

  • What is WMV, MPEG, MP4 Etc

These are different type of format for videos. Each one has it own benifit for size of file or quality. We are more than happy to discuss each one in detail and advise which is the most appropriate one for your needs.

  • How many videos can be put on a USB/memory stick?

Digitised video is usually between 1 to 5GB per hour depending on the format. For example a 3 hour VHS video usually converts to between 3 to 15GB meaning 2 or 3 will fit onto a 32GB stick.

Other size sticks are available 64gb, 128gb 256gb etc.

  • What is a Bokeh Layer?

A Bokeh Layer is a soft out of focus background used to fill the edges of the screen behind the main video. It is particularly  useful when viewing older video footage filmed in the 4:3 ratio or square aspect  on a 16:9 or widescreen display.

  • Will my treasured photos/slides/negatives/tapes be safe with you?

Yes, we take care of everything you send us treating them as our own because we know what they mean to you. We confirm as soon as your package arrives so you know they are safe and we return using Parcelforce who will require a signature.

  • How long will my order take?

Times vary for each order depending on size and the amount of work involved. We aim to complete each order as soon as possible and most customers will receive their media back within one to two weeks. We will be able to advise you with a precise estimation once we have assessed your order.

  • Can you dispose of my Photos/Slides/Negatives/Tapes after scanning/digitising?

Unfortunately No. We have a love of Photos, Slides,  Negatives & Tapes and could never destroy them so we send all your originals back to you.

  • Do you store my image(s) or video(s)?

We will retain your image(s) and/or video(s) on our system for a maximum of 30 days allowing you enough time to request any reprints or copies.

  • How will I be able to view the images on the data DVD?

The data DVD is of standard type and will work on all computers/laptops that have a CD/DVD drive, some top end DVD players can also view Jpeg files meaning you could view directly on your TV.

  • How will I be able to view the DVD containing my slideshow or videos?

The DVD is playable in any DVD player and also on any computer/laptop that has a DVD drive and the correct software e.g. windows media player or QuickTime installed.

  • How will I be able to view the images/videos on the memory stick?

The memory or USB stick will work on any computer with a USB slot so you can view your images & videos on a computer/laptop. Most of today’s modern TV’s also have a usb slot and are capable of viewing  files.

  • I watched the DVD or USB with my family and friends now everyone wants a copy, can I order more?

Yes you can but please be aware that we only store your images & videos for 30 days after which, they are deleted from our system so we would be unable to make any further copies after this time.
